Welcome to the San Mateo County Firefighter’s Golf Club; we hope you'll decided to join us on the links! Our membership consists of a diverse group of people who have a love of golf in common. Following is a little background.
Since its inception in 1987, our club has grown from thirty at one time, to more than one hundred-forty members. The increase was mainly because, that year, we became an Associate Member Club of the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA). As you may know, that means that all our members now have USGA handicaps and are entitled to all of the privileges that membership brings.
We play once or twice per month, March through November, at different courses, most of them within an hour’s drive or less of the peninsula. We give prizes in each of two flights for first through third place and we have a "closest to the pin" contest on two par three holes at every tournament. We also give away golf balls for longest putt and closest to the pin on a total of eight holes. And a birdie, an eagle or a hole-in-one win prizes too!
In March, we have an annual club sponsored breakfast meeting, in late summer we have our annual picnic, and in November, for our closing event, we have a Turkey Shoot where every member who plays brings home a bird. We also go to Reno every year for a three-day golf trip! It's a great time and a fun club, and you don't have to be a firefighter to join! We have many valued members from the private sector, so bring a friend!
I’ve included the tournament schedule. I think you can see, we play some fun, challenging and diverse venues! I want to stress that this isn't a money making venture for anyone. All of the club officers pay the same club and tournament fees that every other member pays, and we get no special privileges... just the privilege all members enjoy...that of making new friends! Your initiation fees go toward your NCGA membership and toward our special events such as the Club Breakfast, the Club Picnic and the Annual Turkey Shoot. And your tournament fees, which in almost all cases are only sixty dollars, go toward your tournament entry and prizes. Any excess is banked to pay for more expensive venues so we don't have to charge you more for those events.
